DJI Phantom 2 VisionLooking on the market, even though I know a lot about RC equipment, seeing all of the different drones makes it complicated to pick one out. Looking at it from a beginner’s perspective, without the proper research, it would be impossible to pick the right one. If you’re not careful and do not take time to do research and read reviews, you could end up picking one out that is for advanced users only, giving you a poor perspective of how drones operate. Recently, during my research, I came across the Phantom 2 Vision and would like to tell you about my findings. The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ V3.0 Quadcopter offers FPV HD video and a 3 axis gimbal that provides for smooth, consistent picture. This quadcopter comes with all the necessities of a professional quadcopter while still coming out of the package ready to fly. Even with all of the amenities, the Phantom 2 Vision+ is better for the quad enthusiast than professionally filmmakers or flyers.

Features and Benefits

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ V3.0 Quadcopter comes equipped with a 1080p HD camera. In addition, this camera comes with an FPV link and corresponding app for both iOS and android. The rechargeable 5200 mAh battery offers approximately 25 minutes of flight time. In addition, the transmitter also has a rechargeable battery, which is a rare find in quadcopters of this caliber. The Vision+ V3.0 is assembled and mounted at the factory which means it arrives as a high-quality, ready-to-fly quad with minimal set-up required. The V3.0 is an upgraded version of the original Phantom 2 Vision+.

Pros and Cons

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ V3.0 has a wide array of pros and cons meaning the buyer will sometimes have to take the good with the bad. This quad offers magnificently stable flight which allows for beautiful aerial shots, even in bad weather. Unfortunately, although the camera is not of terribly quality, it’s also not by any means suitable for professional use. In video and still shots, the sky can become overexposed due to metering which causes lost details in the final picture. One of the really great aspects of this quad is the FPV that is compatible with both iOS and android phones. Although the FPV tends to get choppy at the far end of the range, this only effects the live feed, not the recorded version. The FPV also offers flight data including satellite count, signal strength, speed, altitude, and battery life. One of the biggest disappointments in this quad is that the homing feature does not always work. The quad is meant to fly back to its take off point if transmission is lost, but this isn’t successful 100% of time, causing risk of loss or damage because the quad is also not as durable as some of its counterparts. It’s a good idea to put a name and phone number on the quad in case this feature doesn’t work. The flight time of a fully charged battery lives up to its advertisement, and, fortunately, is easily seen by the FPV in the phone app, which is a convenient feature.

Conclusion

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ V3.0 has all the making of a professional, ready-to-fly quadcopter, but should probably be relegated to hobbyists as opposed to professionals. Although the quad has wonderfully stable flight, the convenience of the all-in-one camera set up doesn’t make up for the lack of quality in the included camera. This quad is still a great choice for the RC enthusiast looking for a professional type quad without the hassle of confusing set-up.
