Parrot BebopLooking at the marketplace in regards to drones, I am glad I am not a beginner or I would get confused. However, I understand that many of my readers may not know everything they need to know about drones and that is where I come into play – I enjoy researching the different drones on the marketplace and reporting my findings to my readers. Today, I am going to introduce you to the Parrot Bebop …

The Parrot Bebop Drone Quadcopter is a quad that sits right in between a toy and a professional quadcopter. This unique quad doesn’t require a separate remote, but can be controlled straight from a smartphone or tablet. This is a great quad for those who aren’t using it professionally but still like to dabble in aerial RC vehicles as well as aerial film.

Features and Benefits

The Parrot Bebop Drone Quadcopter comes equipped with a 14mp full HD 1080p fisheye camera with 3 axis image stabilization. Video and picture from the camera is shot in a 180 degree field of view. The quad itself is stabilized in 3 axes: accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. The Parrot Bebop has a built in GPRS as well as an auto return home and high altitude flight control for ease of use and ease of mind. This quad stands out from others of the same caliber with its unique controls. Although a separate remote transmitter is available for purchase, this quad can be controlled straight from a smartphone or tablet with Freeflight 3, an intuitive, free app available on iOS, android, and windows 8.

Pros and Cons

The Parrot Bebop Drone has a variety of pros and cons, and although many of its functions are innovative and creative, they don’t always work. Watching the instructional videos provided by Parrot is absolutely essential for properly flying the quad. Most of the problems found in this quad are due to software issues. At times the Wi-Fi connection gets lost and the return home doesn’t always work, which puts users at risk of losing the quad.

In addition, the on screen controls are as responsive as a traditional joystick. Based on these issues, although the idea are innovative, sometimes less is more when it comes to RCs. On a positive note Parrot regularly does firmware updates which have shown to be helpful in getting the Bebop Drone to fly properly. As for hardware, the quad itself is extremely durable and can withstand numerous crashes in a short time. The camera works well as advertised and the real time FPV is very beneficial for orientation. Video stability during flight is also very good. In addition, the pictures and videos are very easy to share due to the quad having its own Wi-Fi hotspot. The battery life of the Parrot Bebop Drone is less than ten minute, but unlike most quads in this class, the Bebop comes equipped with a second battery. When it comes to flight, the Bebop is quick and stable and offers a land feature in case of loss of control. It typically flies very well although tit will begin to drift if the wind picks up too much.

Conclusion

The Parrot Bebop Drone Quadcopter is an innovative new experience in semi-professional and hobby quadcopters. Although not all of the kinks have been worked out, this quad offers bright new ideas and experiences for flyers along with stable flight and video. This is a great quad for the experienced hobbyist looking to try something new.
